The women start to loot the bodies. I take the lantern and move across the cavern to the exit opposite. I hear more kobolds further down the corridor talking in draconic about getting ready behind their barrier. The others catch up and we ready ourselves. Sure enough there are four kobold heads peering over a barrier at the entrance to another cavern. I put down my lantern noisily and they cry out a challenge. Before anyone can react I charge forward and leap the barrier landing behind the kobolds ready to attack. Then our own wizard Albertus casts a spell and I burst into flame. Through the searing heat and noise of the flames burning my flesh I can see the kobolds taking advantage and skewering me with their javelins. I roll on the floor amid cries of pain and when the fire goes out I look up to find three of the kobolds dead; arrows sticking out of their twitching bodies. I awkwardly thrust my glaive from the prone position and pierce the hide armor of the last guard. Fire spews forth from behind me and Albertus again casts a spell; this time a magic missile hits Tanyth. This wizard or ours is becoming a tiresome liability. I can do nothing but scurry out of the way and try and recover. The rest finish off the remaining kobold leader that I hadn’t noticed in an alcove and we all take a moment to recover our strength.
While I retrieve the lantern the other right an overturned mining cart and fill their backpacks with veined rocks. The weight of these rocks is so great that they have to then empty them right back out and take just one each. I suggest that we come back for this later and proceed. At the back of the cavern is a pool that has an obvious underwater passage to proceed. While the women argue about returning to the village I jump in to see how far this goes but I am startled by one of the others following me into the darkness; I drop my glaive and have to return for air. For some reason Albertus sets the barrier alight and choking black smoke starts to fill the cavern. Aeilbeth retrieves my glaive and after several attempts the girls get a line fed along the passage so that the rest of us can swim safely to the other end.
I go last so that I can help anyone who may get stuck along the way. When I get out of the water a battle is already raging about me; dead kobolds litter the floor. I set my gaze on the nearest on and charge forwards; leaping into the air I swing my glaive in an overhead arc and cut it in two from shoulder to hip. The others concentrate their efforts on the remaining kobold who is obviously the leader with some power at his disposal. I stride forward towards it and spinning around I neatly behead it.
Ululume and Aeilbeth need to rest after this battle so they get out their soggy bedrolls and try and sleep amongst the corpses. I am unwilling to rest until I can confirm that we are safe so move forward again with the aid of the wizards light coming from his staff. Ahead is a glow coming from great double doors. Above these in draconic runes made of different precious metals is written "Do not break the seal, for pain of death". Above the door in draconic runes made of different precious metals is written "Do not break the seal, for pain of death"
The seal is broken and the doors ajar.
I poke my head inside and see a wonderful and worrying display. A fresco of Tiamat and Bahamut in their avatar forms doing battle with each other as the stories of old tell. The earth as shook and the stars went out such was the force of their might that they threw against each other. Bahamut defeated his evil sister and cut out the heart of her avatar. This he broke it into 4 pieces and hid them; here lies one of them it seems. There is a also a book on a pedestal and a font in the room. Tanyth tries to pry the runes from around the door and I have to admonish her. Albertus rushes in to inspect the book and Tanyth goes to find something else to do. While I kneel in respect to the first of all dragons there is a change in the air and out of the corner of my eye I see one of the evil fresco dragons move and flap it’s wings in a very realistic way. “Time for us to leave!” I announce urgently to Albertus.
